Master of Arts in Religion (M.A.R.) Theology, Apologetics, and Church History
The Master of Arts in Religion is a two-year program of study emphasizing theology, apologetics, and Church History studies. Acceptance into this degree program requires an acceptable bachelor's degree or the completion of a first Master’s degree in theology (M.M.T.S.).
Master of Theology in Reformed Theological Interpretation (Th.M.)
The Master of Theology degree is a three-year program of study in theology, apologetics, and church history. The program is like the M.Div. degree but without the emphasis in practical theology. It is strictly a theological degree intended for a teaching vocation rather than pastoral ministry.
Master of Theology in Biblical Languages (Th.M.)
The Master of Theology degree is a three-year program of study that includes theology, apologetics, church history, and advanced Biblical Languages. The program is like the Th.M. degree in Reformed Theological Interpretation but with a heavy emphasis is advanced language studies. It is strictly a theological degree intended for a teaching vocation, especially in Old or New Testament studies.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
The Doctor of Philosophy is a three-year degree awarded in one of the following areas of concentration: Christian Intellectual Thought; Calvinian Theology; Christian Philosophy and Apologetics; Edwardsian Theology; Eschatological Theology; Church History and Historical Theology; Exegetical Theology; Presbyterian History and Theology; Puritan History and Literature; Presbyterian History and Theology; Reformed History and Theology; and Systematic Theology. Students are required to complete a minimum of 60 credits beyond the M.A.R. or its equivalent, in the doctoral course work. The credit distribution is as follows: Twenty-four credits in the doctoral core courses; twenty-four credits of study in the student’s major area of emphasis; and twelve credits for research and dissertation. The dissertation must consist of a minimum of 75,000 words and not to exceed 100,000 words in length.
Doctor of Arts in Religion (D.A.R.)
The Doctor of Arts in Religion is a three-year degree awarded in one of the major areas offered in the Doctor of Philosophy degree programs. The student must complete all twelve courses of study. This degree program requires no dissertation for completion. However an oral examination covering the course work is required. Entrance into this degree program requires a Master of Arts in Religion (M.A.R.), or its academic equivalent.
Doctor of Literature (Litt.D.) Advanced Research Degree
The Doctor of Literature is an advanced doctoral degree that is based on in-depth research and lengthy dissertation for completion. There are no required courses of study. The dissertation must be a minimum of 100,000 words in length, and shall not exceed 120,000 words. The student will choose and submit a proposed topic to the administration for approval. The dissertation must follow the five-phase program for completing the doctorate degree. Individuals who have previously published a scholarly work, meeting all the requirements for this degree*, which has never been submitted for academic credit, may request the administration to consider the publication as a substitute project for the dissertation requirement.
